God promises strength for the Day
Unless otherwise stated the Scripture References are taken from the English Standard Version, with links to biblegateway.com. While referring to lots of different versions in my study, I generally use the ESV Women’s Study Bible.
God cares about our well-being and makes many promises to strengthen and refresh us physically, mentally and spiritually.
God’s Promises of Strength and REfreshing
God not only promises that he will give us the strength to do his will and fulfil his purposes, but he shows that he cares about us.
God’s Promises of Refreshing
In God’s Word we see that he wants us to rest and cares about refreshing and restoring us.
It is a sign forever between me and the people of Israel that in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed. Exodus 31:17
For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish. Jeremiah 31:25
Strength from God
We receive strength from God, through his Spirit, as we put our trust in Him.
that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, Ephesians 3:16
Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. Proverbs 31:25
God Promises that he is our Strength
We are strengthened by God because he IS our strength. As we rely on Him we are strengthened and can persevere without becoming weak.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Matthew 18:19
God promises strength to defeat evil
In these verses, one from the Old Testament and one from the New, we see that God’s strength helps us when we are facing a spiritual battle. ‘Heights’, ‘strongholds’, and ‘lofty opinions’ refer to idol worship, mindsets and worldviews that are in opposition to God. God has promised that, with his strength, we can defeat these.
This God is my strong refuge and has made my way blameless. He made my feet like the feet of a deer and set me secure on the heights. 2 Samuel 22:33-34
For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. 5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
