God’s plan of redemption, both for the Israelites and for us, is not just about setting us free to then be and do what we want. He wants us to live with him, his way. And this is the only way to true freedom. In the Redeemed: 30 Day with the Israelite Slaves Bible Reading Plan we will be looking at the theme of redemption in the lives of Moses and the Israelite slaves. You can download the Redemption Bible Reading Plan for free using the form below, or you can purchase the Bible Study Guide and Workbook to help you dig deeper into the text. Let’s get started!
Redeemed
The theme for this Scripture Plan is ‘Redeemed’. When I was considering what to call the study for this portion of the Bible Story I considered ‘Set Free’, or ‘Delivered’, but this does not fully grasp what God did for the Israelites, and does for us.
As we can see from the following verse, God promises to rescue the Israelites, set them free and redeem them. That tells me that redemption is more than just setting free.
“Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgement. Exodus 6:6
Redemption is not a concept we are very familiar with these days. In fact, when the word is used it is often not used with it’s original, biblical meaning.
But the concept of redemption is crucial to the gospel message. So, I decided to do a Bible Study on the topic of redemption, which I included as an example in my post on how to study the Bible by topic. Click to read this post for more information about the meaning of redemption and related Bible verses.
But I think the following quote gives us a clue as to what it meant for the Israelites to be redeemed by God.
God redeemed the Israelite slaves so they would be his own ‘treasured possession’ (Exodus 19:5 see also Malachi 3:17), and that is what redemption means to us too.
Redeemed: 30 Days with the Israelite slaves
The verses for this Redemption Bible Reading Plan are taken from Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers. These passages will take us on a journey from when the Israelites were slaves in Egypt up until they leave Mount Sinai to head to the promised land. The Reading Plan follows on from my previous plan, Chosen: 30 Days with the Patriarchs, though it can be done separately.
