God’s Promises of Eternal Life
Eternal life is key to the Christian faith. In His Word God makes many promises of eternal life, reassuring the believer and explaining what it means.
This is the ninth Bible Reading Plan in my series on the Promises of God. Read on to download the 30 Day plan for this month, and to find links to the other plans.
Bible Verses on Eternal Life
Unless otherwise stated the Scripture References are taken from the English Standard Version, with links to biblegateway.com. While referring to lots of different versions in my study, I generally use the ESV Women’s Study Bible.
The Bible gives us many promises of eternal life. By reading through these promises I found that they often give a bit of information about what eternal life means and what it will include. As you read through them during the month I pray that you too will be reassured and learn more.
God’s Promises of Eternal Life
We start with some basic promises of eternal life:
And this is the promise that he made to us – eternal life. 1 John 2:25
In hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began. Titus 1:2
God Promises Eternal Life Through Jesus
Many of the promises of eternal life show that it comes through Jesus.
For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. John 6:40
If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 8:11
God promises Eternal life in Glory
The promises also tell us a bit about what eternal life will be like.
In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. John 14:2-3
For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. 2 Cor 5:1 NIV
God Promises Eternal Life with a crown!
Not only will we be in Glory with Jesus, but we will have a crown!
And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. 1 Peter 5:4
I have fought the good fight,I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Final thought on God’s Promises of Eternal Life
To finish off today, let’s reflect on a verse that shows our part in gaining eternal life – doing the will of God.
And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. 1 John 2:17
I pray that you will be reassured as you read these promises of eternal life and that each day you will gain insight about what that means to you.
