God’s Promises for Relationships

Bible Reading Plans, Get to know the Bible

Since most of the world will be celebrating Mothers’ Day this month, I have decided to base this month’s Bible Reading plan on relationships. This year’s theme for my Reading Plans is God’s promises, and many of his promises are about our relationship with him and with others. Read on to find God’s promises for relationships, and download the free reading plan. You can also find links to my other reading plans on God’s promises below.

Bible Verses for relationships

Unless otherwise stated the Scripture References are taken from the English Standard Version, with links to biblegateway.com. While referring to lots of different versions in my study, I generally use the ESV Women’s Study Bible.

From the very beginning of the Bible, we read that God is a God of relationships.

  • He is the triune God, a relationship between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • He desires a relationship with us.
  • And he understands that we need to be in relationship with others.

Throughout the Bible, we continue to read of his desire for us to be in relationship with him and other people. He frequently promises to take care of us if we are in need, and to guide us in the relationships we have.

Psalm 68:5

God’s Promises for Relationships

God is concerned about all our relationships and makes many promises for the different kinds of relationships we are in.

God’s Promises for Relationship with him

God promises that he is our father and we are his children.

And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty. 2 Cor 6:18

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, are sons of God. Romans 8:14

God’s Promises for relationships to the lonely

God’s first thought towards man was that it was not good for him to be alone (Genesis 2:18) and he makes many promises to people that he will not leave them in this situation.

The Lord watches over the sojourners; he upholds the widow and the fatherless, Psalm 146:9

He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the Lord! Psalm 113:9

God’s Promises for family relationships

As well as putting us in families, God also gives us promises of how these relationships will work.

And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction. Malachi 4:6

Train up a child in the way he should go;  even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

Final thought on God’s Promises for Relationships

The final verse I have chosen to reflect on today is one that reassures us that God will never leave us.

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

I pray that whatever situation you are in with your relationship with God, and your relationships with others, you will find comfort from these verses and the Bible Reading Plan.
