31 Promises of God’s Provision
As I approach the month of October in my year of focusing on God’s promises, I decided that God’s provision was an appropriate theme. It is a season of harvest and thanksgiving for many, and here in the southern hemisphere we are planting new crops.
This Bible Reading Plan is the tenth in my series of Bible Reading Plans on the Promises of God, although they can be done in any order or by themselves. Read on to find some of these verses, download the 31 Day plan for this month, and to find links to the other plans.
Bible Verses on God’s Provision
Unless otherwise stated the Scripture References are taken from the English Standard Version, with links to biblegateway.com. While referring to lots of different versions in my study, I generally use the ESV Women’s Study Bible.
In biblical times people relied heavily on good harvests. Those who worshipped idols often made sacrifices to appease their gods to provide in times of need. But God reassured his people often that he would provide for them. Today, with our city lives and big supermarkets we might not often think about harvests, but with current stresses and uncertainties of pandemic lockdowns, petrol shortages, empty shelves and lack of job security, we can still be reassured by the promises of God’s provision that we find in the Bible.
Promises of God’s Provision
As I looked at the different Bible verses on God’s provision I noticed that they told different messages. I’ve grouped them into these categories:
Promises of God’s Provision: Every Good Thing is From God
God reassures us that every good thing comes from him, and he will not keep it from us.
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:17
Promises of God’s Provision to Those who seek Him
God does not want us to worry about our needs, but to look to him, follow his ways, and trust in him to provide.
The Lord your God will make you abundantly prosperous in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your womb and in the fruit of your cattle and in the fruit of your ground. For the Lord will again take delight in prospering you, as he took delight in your fathers, when you obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes that are written in this Book of the Law, when you turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Deut. 30:9-10
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
God’s Promises of Provision For Those In Need
God’s word tells us that he sees those in need. He cares for the welfare of everyone and promises to provide.
The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing. Psalm 145:15-16
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Matthew 5:6
God Promises to Provide All We Need
In this section I focused on verses that contain the words ‘every’ and ‘all’. God is not going to overlook anything.
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:19
His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3 CSB
God Promises to Provide More Than We Need
But it gets even better! God promises to bless us abundantly and give us more than we could imagine.
I will abundantly bless her provisions; I will satisfy her poor with bread. Psalm 132:15
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us. Eph 3:20
Promises of God’s Provision in Response to our Giving
God also sees our sacrifices when we give to him and others and promises to rewards us.
Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. Proverbs 3:9-10
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:8-9

Final thought on Promises of God’s Provision
The final verse I have chosen to reflect on today teaches us that God does not provide all these blessings just to make us feel good. He desires for us to use these blessings to bless others.
He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God. 2 Corinthians 9:10-12
