God’s Promises of Protection
In these uncertain times, we can find ourselves feeling a little lost or confused. What is the right path to choose? What is going to happen in the future? Or simply – Am I safe? In all these situations, and more, we can turn to God and his promise to protect us. Here you will find 31 of God’s promises of protection, which I pray will bring you comfort and reassurance.
This Bible Reading Plan is the eleventh in my year-long series of Bible Reading Plans on the Promises of God, although they can be done in any order or by themselves. Read on to find some of these verses, download the 31 Day plan for this month, and find links to the other plans.
Bible Verses about God’s Protection
Unless otherwise stated the Scripture References are taken from the English Standard Version, with links to biblegateway.com. While referring to lots of different versions in my study, I generally use the ESV Women’s Study Bible.
There are many places in the Bible where God reassures his people that he will protect them. Many of these verses are found in the Old Testament, particularly in the Psalms, where the psalmist not only recognises his difficult circumstances, but also that God will protect him. But, the New Testament also reassures us that with God, nothing can stand against us.
God’s Promises of Protection
There are a number of different ways in which God promises to protect us, so I have divided the day’s readings into different categories.
God Promises to Save and Rescue Us
When we are in trouble, God will be there to rescue us – even if the trouble is at our own making.
When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. Psalm 91:15
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
God Promises to Cover and Shield Us
I found a number of verses that use metaphors to describe God’s protection. In some he is described in human form, with arms that carry us. In other verses he is described as a shield, or a bird protecting its young.
The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms. And he thrust out the enemy before you and said, ‘Destroy.’ Deuteronomy 33:27
Even to your old age I am he, and to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save. Isaiah 46:4
God Promises to Watch Over Us
Knowing that God is always watching over us brings great comfort, especially when we are feeling fearful during the night.
You, O Lord, will keep them; you will guard us from this generation forever. Psalm 12:7
He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; Psalm 121:3 NIV
god is our Refuge and Safe Place
God is not only described as someone who offers protection, but as the object of protection itself. He is our stronghold, strong tower and safe place.
The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him. Nahum 1:7
The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. Proverbs 18:10
No-one Can Stand Against You
It is a great comfort and reassurance to know that God’s protection cannot be broken. Nothing, or no-one, can get to us.
Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. Luke 10:19
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. John 10:29
The Lord Promises to Fight for You
God not only promises to defend us, but to fight for us too. If you are feeling threatened in any way and don’t know which way to turn, you can trust that God knows and will fight for you in any way that is needed.
The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent. Exodus 14:14
One man of you puts to flight a thousand, since it is the Lord your God who fights for you, just as he promised you. Joshua 23:10

Final Thought on God’s Promises of Protection
For my final thought on promises of God’s protection I have returned to the Psalms, with another Psalm identifying God as our stronghold, or refuge. This time, however, it also shows what our part should be. We are to trust in God and seek him.
The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:9-10
I pray that you will trust God and seek him as you face difficult times and stand on his promises to protect you.
