The world is in a bit of a crazy mess at the moment. Many of us are in need of healing of some kind – physical healing, emotional healing or maybe spiritual healing. The Bible is a place to look for comfort and encouragement in times of sickness. So, this Bible Reading Plan is dedicated to what the Bible says about healing. We will read Bible verses about healing, Biblical promises of healing, stories of Jesus’ healing miracles, and how the church continues to heal in Jesus’ name. Let’s get started! You can use the form below to download your free printable of the Scripture Plan.
Bible Verses about Healing
The Bible has a lot to say about healing, either from the promises of God, the prayers of his people, or the stories of healings throughout the Scriptures. After all, since The Fall (when sin and sickness entered the world), God has desired for us to return to him, as whole children of God. And that is what ‘healing’ means in the Bible – it is not just about removing sickness, it is about being whole.
What the Bible says about Healing
The Hebrew word that has been translated ‘heal’ in most of these Old Testament passages is rapha. This word not only referred to a physical, literal healing but also to healing of distress and healing of nations.
The Greek words, iaomai, soso, hygiaino, and therapeuo used in the New Testament passages, also refer to physical healing, wholeness and saving. Apokathistemi, which means ‘restored’, is used to describe Jesus’ healing of the blind man. However, being ‘restored’ is a key part of Jesus’ healing ministry, as the people were not only healed of their sickness but were restored to their families and communities who often shunned them due to their diseases or ailments.
God desires for us to be physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually healed, restored, saved and made whole; but as we will see in the verses and passages, we have to play our part in this process too.

Biblical Promises of Healing
Throughout the Bible, God promises that he will heal his people and his nation. Sometimes he also asks something of us – to serve Him, pray to Him, confess our sins and repent (mourn or turn back to God).
For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord, because they have called you an outcast: ‘It is Zion, for whom no one cares!’ Jeremiah 30:17
You shall serve the Lord your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you. Exodus 23:25
Turn back, and say to Hezekiah the leader of my people, Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord, 2 Kings 20:5
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. James 5:16
“I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will lead him and restore comfort to him and his mourners, creating the fruit of the lips. Peace, peace, to the far and to the near,” says the Lord, “and I will heal him.” Isaiah 57:18-19
Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of prosperity and security. Jeremiah 33:6
The Lord sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health Psalm 41:3
Prayers for Healing in the Bible
In these Bible verses about healing, we see people crying out to God for their own healing or the healing of others. Maybe you are not seeking God for your own healing right now, but are burdened to pray for someone else, even the healing of your nation.
Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul. 3 John 1:2
Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise. Jeremiah 17:14
Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction. Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! Psalm 107:19-21
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, Psalm 103:2-4

Bible verses about emotional Healing
It is comforting to know that God also cares about our emotions. These Bible verses about healing a broken heart show that God seeks to restore our mental health and heal our feelings of guilt when we repent of our sins.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. Rev 21:4
When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:17-18
As for me, I said, “O Lord, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against you!” Psalm 41:4
Jesus as Healer
Before we look at some specific stories of Jesus’ healing ministry let’s look at some Bible verses about Jesus as healer. The first verse shows us that healing was a central part of his ministry on earth. The other two verses, including the prophecy from Isaiah, show the power of healing in Jesus’ death.
And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people. So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them. Matt 4:23-24
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 1 Peter 2:24
Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:4-5
Healing Miracles of Jesus
